Hi, need to remove front passenger seat for a couple of weeks.
I am unsure what to do about the seat belt pretensioner.
Should I remove it from the car altogether or should I connect the electric plug and leave it in the passenger footwell?
I'd prefer to remove from the car but unsure what problems I will cause myself with the electrical systems.
Your advice greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Remove the bolts securing the seat. Disconnect any cable connecters that stop you removing the seat. Thats what I did. It was ok.

Thanks for the reply. I read elsewhere that you have to disconnect battery completely and wait 30 mins before removing connection to seat belt pre tensioner.
Did you do that? I don't want it exploding on me!

It is wise to disconnect battery and leave it to allow any residual charge to die away. 30 mins is enough to be safe.

Humour me, when you've removed the seat, with the ignition on and or ignition running, meter the voltage coming across the two pins on the connector.

Would confirm my suspicion that there is only a 12v sent to the airbag / belt tensioner to detonate it, meaning we needn't be as scared of these explosively activated safety devices such as air bags and belt pre-tensioners, which would take some of the pressure off you refitting the seat in a week or so's time as you'd know you weren't likely to have anything blow up in your face.

I've left the front passenger seat in as I had enough room with just the rear split seats out.
I may have to remove it in the future if I need the extra space lengthwise.
