hi all!!im new to this forum, curently im an owner of a Jeep TJ,but for reasons of taxes, fuel eficiency, and internal vehicle space,im considering of exchanging it with a used freelander '99 to '02.
Can anyone inform me of what i should carefully look in a Freelander and what are the most common problems they might have after these years of use from previous owner?I would appreciate any help!(forgive my english..im posting from Greece)

ello zorba

just make sure you get a TD4 - run away from any petrol gaylander

actually considering the 1.8 petrol...

DONT DO IT!!!!!:confused::confused:
IF YOU CANT GET A TD4 look for an l series Diesel..
If its the same in Greece as in Spain i would assume the prices of 4x4s are quiet high.
BUT dont go for the 1.8 or the 2.5...petrol
Just read about all the problems on here and stay away from them.
Hope this helps

Are you completely mad?? the Freelander petrol engine is rubbish and will die on you and will cost you thousands of Euro's DO NOT BUY A PETROL FREELANDER!!!!

Hi guys,
I'm thinking to buy a 1998 Freelander with 2.0 L diesel engine.Price is 2500 pounds.What do you think for this diesel model.Thanks

tiz ok - prefer the TD4 myself. depends on what else is wrong with it - make sure yu get the most comprehensive warranty you can.

TD4 are more expensive,I can't afford for the moment.Do you think the price is good. It's a private seller,no warranty.Any known common problems for L engine? How many mpg in town?

personally i wouldnt touch ANY freelander that doesnt have a warranty unless yu have loadsa free dosh.

If they go wrong (when) they cost a fortune to put right. Having said that the doozils are best and yu mite be lucky.

£2.5k will get you a nice R reg disco. Buy one and get a proper 4x4 that doesn't cost you a fortune to repair.

I become disappointed with your answers and I'm staring to change my mind.So these Freelanders aren't as good as they look?I don't want a vehicle to spend much money after.I need something reliable because I travel a lot. What do you suggest, not to buy?

If you want reliable do not buy a freelander. Yes I know someone will come on here and say "I've had mine for ages done zillions of miles in it and never had a problem" They're spwany lucky buggers and the gods are smiling on them. For most freelander owners the story is completely different. just read through the posts in the freelander section and see the sort of repair costs that are been quoted and the frequency of those posts then go through the other sections and see the difference. ( the RR section might be similar. But I don't go down there very often)

You haven't said exactly what model (Xdi, XEdi, wtc), how many doors or the mileage. Assuming an Xdi 5 door with average (90K) miles a private seller should not be asking for anything over £2K. £2500 therefore sounds a bit steep. PM or post the exact model details and I can gove you an exact value.

Cheers
