I had it up on a ramp yesterday and there was no play at all :s. Ive no idea but its sorted now. New brake disc and new modular wheel and that'll do it

whenever a wheel has been off for what ever reason it is good practice to re-check the wheel nuts after 40-50 miles.
 
Yup I always do that. Reason I had it in the tyre place was getting the tyres put onto my old wheels so that I could get to the cause of a vibration so I had been checking and whatnot

Did you watch the tyre place changing the tyres over?

Yup, I always do any time any work is done.

I've no idea how they could as they were all tightened by hand. No air guns which I was pleased at

Did you get a glance at the state of the wheel studs when they changed the wheels?

Just wondering if the worn studs were the cause of the vibration.
 
so they looked like the pic above the other day?

if they put the nuts on the wrong way (if you didn't have double tapered), then would the wheel move up and down and do that to the threads?
 
could just be that old.

to be careful, i'd be taking all my wheels off tomorrow and checking the stud conditions.. don't want this happening again :)
 
As I said I'd already had the wheels off to find the cause of the vibration and the wheel studs were in perfect condition. Only reason I can think is the tyre garage. I only started getting thudding, juddering and basically signs that I should have known to point to a loose wheel this morning when I left for work. Absolutely nothing beforehand apart from the vibration at motorway speeds which had been happening before it went into the tyre garage
 
Nope they were on correctly. I found one of them afterwards and although the thread was fine the domed area was stretched where it had been pulled off the thread by the wheel
