Hi there,

I've just had my 06 Freelander back from having 2 new tyres put on. I've had Michelin Latitude Tour's put on it (same as the other two) and have had them put on the back as recommended.

I've just noticed that the speed rating is different on the new tyres. The other two are 102H and the new ones are 98H. Does this matter?

Would be grateful for any advice.

The speed rating is no different both are 'H' therefor max 130mph.

The number is the weight loading of the tyre, so do you carry a lot of weight in the rear.

Most of the tyre retailers sites give info on the details on the tyre sidewall.

Sorry, I realised that after googling!

No I don't carry a great deal of weight in the back, so is it ok if the weight loading of the tyres are different from those on the front?

Thanks

No problem at all.

I just realized what number and letter you have giving .. this indicates the maximum load carrying capacity of the tyre when operating at its maximum speed capability so at 130-131mph is rated at 98 where as the front tyres are 102, just a few Kg s more.

Most of the AT tyres that i've looked at have a speed and load rating lower that the factory tyre fitted, for me speed rating is important, but all I ever carry in the rear is around 15-20 Kg of stuff at speed :)

The 98 and 102 aren't kg figures.

Tyres loadng of 98 means max tyre load 750kg
102 tyre loading means 850 kg loading for the tyre.

Depending on your vehicle, a 98 loading means 1500kg on the back axle, which should be okay. My car is plated 1460kg, but the earlier Freelanders have a rear axle load of less.

In theory 98's should be fine. I have 102's on mine all round.
