Hello and good morning,

my name is dan, and i live in frankfurt (germany).

i know it is not really a land rover topic, but hopefully you can help me even tough and sorry for any mistakes in my english.

i own a 1997 300tdi 130 Defender as a camper version, and i need a bigger car /truck for future travels also with our kids and my wife.

in a hurry i saw an offer from withams for a DAF 4x4 5 ton truck and placed an offer wich i won.
the problem is, in germany we have short time number plates and export plates for cars who are not currently registrated for exporting cars and bringing them to the maintenance shop.

is there anythin similar you have in the uk or can anyone give me hint how i can bring the truck from the uk to germany, because they will remove the military number plates of course and the truck ist not registered. as i do not live in the uk i dont think it will be possible to register it just for exporting.

i need to bring the truck from colsterworth to the harbor at kingston upon hill around 100 miles.

it would be very helpfull if anyone could give me hint how to solve the problem.
best regards
dan

We use trade plates for such circumstances. A garage can apply for a set of trade number plates that not only identify the company but also cover the road tax as long as the journey is related to business.

Other than that it has to go on a truck and be delivered.

There are, prospectively, a couple if probes here....
As the vehicle has never been registered???? Is it "new" or not?
Is it one (post Brexit) considered that it is shipping within the EU or not?

That really depends on VOSAs view of "not previously registered" as being "new"

In the days of old there were two classes of trade plate, one with a triangular document holder on the front plate, could only be used for road test. The other one with a oblong document holder could be used for going for bits etc. Think there were referred to as restricted and general trade plates. Don't know if this still applies. ;)

The easiest answer seems to be get it to the docks on trade plates, or register it in Germany and use those.

Update - see post #10

thx for your quick answer!
of course the truck is not new, it is model 1991 and just registered to the uk army before.
thank you Mad Hat Man, i wrote an email to withams, but no reply so far if there would be a possibility and how much it would cost so far.

since i will also have to spend a lot of money for resoreing the truck und rebuilding it, i will try to do as much as i can by myself and try to keep the costs as
low as possible. is there any chance to get one of these trading or test drive plates for one day? or at least somebody who ownes a pair of them and
is able to drive the truck with me to the harbor. of course i will pay the expenses!

has anyone of you contact to somebody who in the area Nottingham , Sheffield or Kingston`?

would be glad if somebody could assist me or make me some helpfull contact.

thank you in advance
Dan

if there is no other sollution,
would there be any chance to register it for short time (1week) on a private person in uk and dirve it with the plates for one week?
