Alright, I´ll see if I can take some pictures this weekend. To quote a well-known actor "I´ll be back..."

And guys, we really appreciate the help and your good advice!

Alright, here´s the deal...

we tried to start the car for the first time today. (By the way - we did this AFTER we bought it = total faith in the engine) The car started right away with some start gas and a fresh battery! That means the fuel pump is ok! Next thing was the brakes where we probably need to buy new brake shoes. Seems to be a minor problem. The big thing will for sure be to fix the rust problem. Some questions:

1. Which repair manual is the best? Easy to understand and with lots of illustrations/photos? Is it available in digital form?

2. Is there a way of removing parts of the body from the chassies? If you look at the pics you´ll see that it´s severely damaged on the back of the car. The front part is really ok, but from the back side door it needs to be welded both underneath and on top hence we need to remove the body. Is this procedure descibed somewhere on the forum or in a repair manual?

ALL ideas tips and tricks are very welcome!

Regards from Sweden

You are better off asking your questions in the 'series' section rather than the 'defender' section. They drive the same type of vehicle as you over there.:D

You can make a temporary rigid bar like wot I did.
Not sure how legal it is but needs must.
You do this at your own risk though.

Find a length of steel scafolding or some two inch steel box section - I used a 6 feet length of box section. Buy two cheap trailer tow hitches (to fit either the round or square section) and a second tow ball hitch. Bolt or weld the hitches to each end of the bar.
Drill the front bumper and mount a normal tow ball hitch.
Connect up and away you go - SLOWLY.

Take it easy and remember the guy in the back needs to keep his eyes open.
Good luck.

Cant count - and cant read the page numbers.
Saw the first post and the rest is history.
Glad its sorted. He'll be sh*t hot at welding before very long.
Still at least he knows how to lash together an emergemcy rigid tow bar.

I'll post pics of the one I made if anyone is interested.

Hi again,

thank you for your advice. Just to give you an idea on what kind of rookies we are, we actually thought this car was an old Defender . Now that we have discovered that there is a forum dedicated to these old models I´ve posted a thread there. Just wanted to tell you that your answers are much appreciated anyway and that we actually found another Land Rover enthusiast in the neighbourhood. Hopefully we can exchange info over a pint or two with him.:)

If you´d like to follow the restoration feel free to help us in the Series forum. There can´t be that many swedish Landy beginners around can there?

Cheers!

bit more than a car tho int it, surely

Is it??? Define the purpose of a car. After all it's main purpose is to carry a driver and passengers. the 109 in question is the station wagon and it's purpose is to carry a driver and passengers. admittedly it had 4wd capability but it's main purpose is still the same as that of a car. or even a minibus. if it's a 12 seater.

yeah , light utility, but if i only used the front two seats to cart me and me good lady about and not used the load bed, would that make it a car?

Yep but you have to promise yer won't use the back at all. or else it dint count

ok so as of tomorrow i have a car then, what about me tools on tuesday tho? can i put them in the back of me car! or is it then a truck ?
