Hi everyone.
I am going to France in the morning and my cruise control has packed in today!
I rely on it very much as I am a double below knee amputee and drive with hand controls-so the CC helps very much in taking the strain of my hands.
I don't know if it is a coincidence but the cruise stopped working after I had the car washed this afternoon.
It is not the fuse as the electric mirrors and rear wiper still work and they share tha same fuse.
Also the horn has also stopped working this afternoon!
Again I have checked the fuse and it is OK.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
I'm not looking forward to a difficult 6 hour drive as things stand
Best wishes,
Wayne.

Check all your vacuem pipe conections under bonet!
What did you wash it with? A fire hose!

Thanks Jason..
It's a start I will have a look.
Just the usual hand wash at the garage.
Don't htink that has anything to do with it, just coincidence.
Wayne.

If the horn has packed in aswell then I'd say possibly a rotory coupler fault, what year of disco is it?

Is the SRS light on too?

It is a 2000 (W) plate.
The SRS light comes on intermittenly.
Thanks,
Wayne.

Rotory coupler I reckon then.

Its the device that sits behind the steering wheel and has a fine coil of wire inside to allow all the steering wheel buttons to be connected to the dash wiring.

To be sure thats what it is, take off the air bag and remove the column covers, check continuity through the coupler with a multimeter.

If continuity is present, turn the steering wheel and see if the connection gets broken.

Thanks for the help Clutchdust.
Have just had a new rotary coupler fitted and everything OK :)
Only missed one day of my holiday.
Can you tell me the likely cause of the problem?
I assume it is just general wear and tear.
Best wishes,
Wayne.

Just general wear, they're not overly prone to breaking but they are a fragile thing as the coil of wire inside is very fine. It may have been partially damaged earlier on in its life if someone was a but rough with it if they'd had the column apart.

I've replaced a few over the years but it's not a common fault.
