hi guys,

I am unable to shift it out of park on my 300tdi auto disco. It was fine in the morning, but refused to shift out of park when I start her up just now. Anyone know what could be wrong?

I know that the footbrake has to be depressed before I could shift it out of park, so there appears to be a switch somewhere. But where? Is there a way to bypass it?

Cheers!!

What age is yours? Mine moves out of park without the footbrake.
Have you tried it with the Hi/Lo in the neutral position too or not?

thanks for the info guys....was in a rush to go out with the caravan friday afternoon when I found out that the disco can't be moved, and it's right at the front of the caravan....managed to use straps and pulley and got the caravan out of the driveway through the front lawn...and just got back now....

Bit more details on my problem on hand:
- autobox don't shift out of park
- all indicator decides to not function
- no brake lights when pedal is pressed

I'll be removing the gear selector interlock solenoid for now, to get the car moving, but having no brake lights and indicator, it isn't legal to go anywhere. Have checked that all fuses are okay.

Could someone also shed some light on where the brake light circuit is located (as described by bmp42), or does the problem lies elsewhere?

Thanks.

"Where the light circuit is located" better let BMP42 discribe that one, but there is a fused supply to the the ignition switch from there a fused supply to the brake lights via the foot operated brake light switch, the return path is via the vehicles body ground or earth what ever you wish to call it.
Get your self a Haynes Manual all the wiring diagrams are in there, also did you check the 60amp fuse in the engine bay fuse box?.

finally found the problem...though a little weird.......

it's the 15A fuse in the vehicle (fuse #1).....when looking at it it's not burnt out, but when tested with multimeter, its not passing through current....replaced and everything back to normal........

Thanks for all your input tho......am having my sunday afternoon pint now.....hehe!!!

Well done. I know there are some iffy fuses around the fuse element is spot welded to the two spades and in your case not very well.
I bought a box of 50 for a £1 as a "good idea" at a car show makes me wonder how good they are now.
