Hi all,

I just had to drop the engine oil out of my disco td5 2000, I have done it before with no probs but this time I undid the sump drain plug and instead of just dropping out, it has come out connected to what is best described as a spring?? This spring would appear to be attached inside the sump. Any ideas advise would be really helpful!

Thanks alot,

Chris.

I'm wondering if the sump drain thread has been stripped and helicoiled in the past, and you've removed the insert with the bolt?

Or the bung has been overtightened and it has stripped the threads out!
You wil need a helical kit or a bigger bung and regal a new thread

Thanks guys,

The 'spring' appears to be uniform as it were, ie not rough like maybe a ripped out thread might be? At the end there is like a manufactured bulb of metal on the end? Weird!! But not good!!

Thanks for your help, looks like I will be looking into this helicoil kit thing then!

Just searched for these helicoil things and surprise it looks just like what is hanging out!!

Cheers fellas!
