Could we add functionality to upload the new image format files to this forum? The file extension is .heic

Most new phones (android and apple) are defaulting to this now as they have a lot of space and I have to convert them to jpg before uploading which is a pita.

Got a little coding knowledge so happy to help if I can be useful 😊

Why dont you just copy n paste them its much faster. :)

.HEiC is a specific to Apple format.
High Efficiency Image File Format won't work on a lot of servers or PC's running windows.

Since iOS 11, Apple devices take pictures in a HEIC format, unless you turn this feature off in the camera settings.
Some of the newer Android are starting to use this (pre-compressed) format - it can be 'turned off' on those phones too....

I've got a Samsung that is over 2 years old and always defaulted to .heic (Samsung may have rolled it out before other Android phones?) - I actually prefer it because it does save a noticeable amount of space. I just thought that allowing heic uploads would help people keep using this forum into the future, it's not just a gimmick as it looks like it's coming to most phones.

@kevstar what do you mean by copy and paste? If there's an easy way to get around this, it would be good to know!

One person uses heic and expects the forum to change just for them, rather than they change a setting in their phone.

Unbelievable.

If your on your phone, say your looking at an image or photo in your album....hold your finger on the image until
a menu comes up & highlight "copy"...... then say your on the forum & want to put the pic in a thread hold your finger
on the screen until a menu comes up then highlight paste & it will put the pic up.

I use my laptop so its the same deal but its the right button to copy & paste.

Sorry @GRATCH I didn't want to appear ungrateful, rather the opposite. I know it's possible to configure a web server to accept heic formats, using depencies like imagick and Libheif, and I've got some knowledge in that direction. This forum has helped me and I'd be totally willing to spend some time working on a feature like this if it made it better for everyone.

@kevstar the copy option is only available on iOS, and isn't available on Android. I've don't think there's anything similar for Android either. Even if I send pics to a laptop, it will still attempt to upload them in heic.

If I'm literally the only on here that is in this situation then pls ignore me, but because the heic format is becoming more and more widespread I thought it might be useful to add the feature sooner and be ahead of the curve 😊
