so i am in europe, with my right hand drive p38,
and the front passengers door decides to go into its locked mode, and although i have access to a lhd motor from the same side door, is it possible to fit? will this work as previously there should have been a key on the other handle with it being there 'drivers' door..?

i dont want to destroy the lock until i have a suitable lock but i can only compare once the door is open..

thanks guys

JR:)

I think the lock actuators are the same, left to right but not front to rear. However, the motors are and it is the motors that tend to burn out so you can take the lock actuator apart, unclip the motor and just swap it over.

Or are you talking about the lock itself?

thanks for taking the time to reply, my lock is superlocked, that is all i know, i shut the door and then it wouldnt open making me look quite foolish, so i am now going to follow the links i have dound and use the long screwdriver, hammer method,

hopefully i can swap the neccessary parts, and if that doesnt work, then at least my door will still be locked?

The mechanism that you will destroy opening the door should be replaceable from your new lock. As you're doing that why don't you disconnect the superlock function from the mechanism, at least until you find out why it happened.

thanks man, info like this is so nice to recieve, how do i dissable superlock?

If you look in the lock actuator you can see a big cog for the lock and a smaller one for the superlock. I haven't tried this yet (on my to-do list) but I think if you take the smaller one out it'll stop it superlocking.

Other people cut the relevent wire but I cannot remember off the top of my head which colour the wire is. It'll be in the RAVE manual though.

Is it possible to get the door card off so you don't have to smash the lock?

The lock motors do seem to burn out periodically but they definitely get fried if you've got an old RF receiver. So, if the battery is mysteriously draining then the 2 might be connected.

I'd remove the small cog, I get very nervous messing with any P38 electrics unnecessarily.

cheers for the info guys, im just about to go on vacation, so madly sorting the niggles out, my local landy place had a UK lock in, and it was the correct connector too! sadly long story cut short, i have a uk lock with the wrong connector, luckily afer some soldering now my lock works, but this superlock function is a must to dis-able! top of my list for after vacation! can i do this too all 5 door locks? or just the 4 main ones?

regards JR

I don't think the boot is the same (never had it out) but the 4 main door lock actuators are all pretty similar. The 2 front ones have some extra microswitches on the bottom for triggering the central locking and the EKA code entry.
