Today, when switching off my freelander 2, 57 plate, TD4 a new first time ever loud clicking noise started for a few seconds then stopped and then started again for several seconds, Any advise appreciated.

my money is on front of engine accompanied by a bit of a squeal....

The throttle body valve is a known failure point on that engine (it suffers from black goop build-up), so that's the place to check first.

Lift the bonnet and get someone to switch the engine oft while you look and listen to where the sound is coming from. Don't poke yer fingers in moving parts.

The problem turned out to be a faulty throttle body which has now been replaced, Thanks for all replies.
