I seem to remember reading that BERU are OEM, but I would have thought NGK would also be good. Land Rover don't make glow plugs!

just caughtyour thread. t manual states you need a 107 amp battery for t diesel. i had a similiar problem . battery checked out ok all t time but with t lights on for 6 min, engine not running, it was cooked, put in a 110 amp varta, problem solved. cousin had t same trouble fitted t correct battery and now she s happy. you need t amps, you need t cranking speed and you need good plugs. fit t battery and see what happens, if it cranks slow you may need a starter motor also, but take it one step at a time, hope this helps.

Thanks for all your advice guys. It's really appreciates. Will stick the new battery on and grab a set of glowplugs from main dealer. Am I right thinking I'll have to drop inlet manifold off or can you struggle round them? ... Sorry, not being lazy but cars at home and I'm at work. Wanna ring dealers and order the bits.
Thanks. Tel

I'm going to be replacing glow plugs for first time. Are there any other jobs you should do at the same time with the manifold off ?

Nan-ber "hope this helps" Mr yeah I'm really appreciative of any advice! Thank you all for taking time to help! 130ah batts comming Monday. Have done leak off pipes. The glow plugs have been needing two hits for the last few months so ordered the Beru ones this morning. Just gotta stop at main dealers and pick up inlet manifold gaskets Monday.
Good point TAKdriver! Anything else I should be doing while manifolds off? Tel

Guys. Dunno if anybodys got any thoughts. But I changed the leak off pipes (including the one same size hose that runs from manifold to little black switch on top of fuel filter bracket. Used proper leak off hose.
Took car for blast round block and all started drove ok. Jumped in it next morning (started ok) and the car absolute flew to work. Accelerated best it has for ages, no smoke and pulled like a train! Got to work and found two small derv puddles under it. It turns out it had popped off two leak off hoses. Refitted them and although it stopped the leak and they staying on, it's lost that extra performance. Was gonna stick airline on the return to tank incase it's blocked. But see pipe runs through the pump.
Any suggestions or just a one off?

Sorry for all the questions guys. Guy that was gonna get my Beru Glowplugs from has sold out. But has "Delphi" ones. Anybody have any experiences with them? Or shall I go for NGK's? Cheers. LTel

Hi guys
At wits end with this thing now. Glow plugs changed. Battery changed. Leak off pipes changed. Fuel filter changed.... Had the "hot start" box off EBay fitted but this was when the fix had first been identified.
Broke down yesterday and now the cars so close to being broken for spares! :0(
Latest situation is the car only ever won't start when hot. And before has always been in a place where I've just kept trying until it fires. Well yesterday it broke down at home,so I had time to play.
Remember it doesn't always not start! When it's hot and won't start, the engine just turns over without attempting to fire. No smoke. And easy start won't even make it cough.
Left it and tried an hour later and she was starting to fire but only while turning over. Wouldn't pick up on the throttle.
Left it another hour n half till cold and fired str away.
So I'm guessing lack of fuel? Pumps buzzing and loads fuel to pump. Ran it till hot and again it wouldn't start. Poured 10gallon cold water over the pump and she fired!!
I had eliminated it being the hot start problem as I have the fix fitted 3 year ago. The glow plug light comes on hot or cold. And the revs remain little higher for 30 seconds. So I'm guessing the timer and glow plug parts working.
How can I tell if the "fix" is adding the extra fuel as it's meant to? Is it possible a part of the fix isn't working and I should try the £35 fix still on eBay?

Sorry for the essay! But really desperate here guys for any advice. Thanks in advance.

tel sorry to hear about your situation matey i know exactly how you feel......coz i,m in the same boat:(.i,ve changed, leak off pipes, sensors,in tank pump etc.i,m starting to think my fip is totally foooked.i cant remember the last time i got more than 20mpg:eek:.foooking thing drinks fuel.mind you i still love her to bits, some things are best left to the pro,s mate,do you have a good indi landrover garage by you?

Have you tried removing the hot start fix you added some time ago to see how it performs?

Now you have done all the things you mention, it might be OK without it!
