Hi All,

just changed the oil and filter on our 2001 Freelander, having had to cut a hole in the undertray as some dullard has pop-riveted it in place (DOH!!!) and noticed a hole in the engine block diagonally 45degrees NW of the sump plug that had a thread but nothing in it. Is this normal? Should it have something bolted into it? Was it used to lower the engine in place in the factory or could it be used for stabilising the block if working on it? Have tried to look at schematics and photos on Google but cannot find one of the rear view of the engine block.

The frame around the pop rivets unbolts, to access underside of engine/trans, bolt hole probably used in manufacture.

Not sure re the rivets, they appear to be where all the 10mm bolts are, or should be! Like the answer about the manufacture hole. N
 
The flat plastic bit sits in a metal frame. To get to the underside of the engine yer undo the bolts which hold the metal frame - some at the front and some at the rear. There are 2x small brackets which steady the plastic to the sunbframe at the rear of the plastic with bolts. Well that's the normal setup when new.

The undertray is held on by 4 bolts at the rear ( two each side) and two bolts at the front (one each side)
