Hello again.
.
After noticing the issue with the damaged wiring loom that runs from the ECU, i have managed to repair all but one of them.
.
It's a weird one, as it's a black wire, that is lined with what appears to be silver foil.
.
Inside said foil, is more wire, and inside that loose wire, there is a smaller yellow wire.
.
Simple wire joining and repair i can do, but this one looks weird, more so as there could be a third section of wire that's completely missing. Maybe its just some of the outer wire, but it could be a seperate section of wire.
.
Does anybody know what this is and what i can do about it please..?

Can i just tape over the yellow wire, then tape over that whole section? Or will it need more work than that?

If you look at the second picture, which gives the most detail, it give the appearance that a smaller section of wire is capped off at the top of the main wire.
 
if its foiled then its shielded, usually a magnetic sensor, crank sensor or the like
 
Sounds like the screened wire from the CPS, you need to make sure the foil screen is electrically continuous.
 
zero chance of that happening... its mullered.

I may have a section of ECU loom and you will be able to salvage something from that ? will look later and post back :)
Loom is from a year 2000 if i can find it

That would be good, however LRR seem to think its got to be year specific.

Bad news is that Land Rover quoted me £1,293.05 PLUS VAT for a replacement harness...:eek:

And LRR don't break many DSE 2.5 RR's COS THEY'RE BLOODY FANTASTIC CARS !
 
I would not have complete harness but may have the connector that plugs in ECU and a foot of cable or so. Not savvy with auto electrics so would not know if any use

I would have to say that its going to be better than having nothing at all
 
Yep found the loom the black shielded wire has "SOVITRAN - ROVER" stamped on the cable and looks the same as your posted pics.

Doing it like a layer cake... The wire is black on the outside, and initially, there is a layer of bake-o-foil.

Inside the layer of bake-o-foil, there is a thin yellow wire, a thin black wire, and load of unprotected wires.

What i've done already, is to cover the yellow wire with insulating tape.

In the morning, once i've got daylight again, i'm gunna cut and splice a new bit of black wire in, where the original has been killed.

With that done, i'm going to cut away the outer black covering, then wrap the whole thing up in bake-o-foil from the kitchen, before binding it all together with electrical insulating tape.

Sounds like a bodge job to me, but that's what the boys from LRR have advised me to do
 
What year is the car, I have a 96 DSE scrapper I could remove the harness from.

mine is 98... but, if it's just one wire being replace, then i personally fail to see a problem.

could be wrong and often am, but i still fail to see a problem !

If it's MY 98 with EGR it's a different loom but as you say just replacing the one wire would not cause a problem.
 
That looks about right.

One of those thicker black wires should have a yellow wire and a black wire inside it, plus some loose wires, all wrapped up in bake-o-foil

Not surprised to hear back from the fella at the electric garage.... Aaaaaaaaaas the alternator is fine!
 
How to bodge the cam or crank wire :cool:

Pictures supplied, but the basics are;

Join the two smaller wires (black and yellow), in the normal way then tape them up.

Wrap the whole section in tin foil and then tape that up.

Squeeze it all back inside the rubber housing... and then tape that up.

Just waiting to put the alternator back on now !
