Morning,

I have a 1991 J plate single cab 110 pickup Defender and need a new Universal Joint. I have spoken to a couple of local specialists in Sussex and they have said I should get one on eBay as it will be cheaper.

Can anyone help me to choose the right part for my vehicle? I am a mechanical luddite so the only description I can give from my office (without taking a photo) is that it is the UJ that is approximately under the cab seats - hope that is enough of a description to suffice.

Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The best you can afford, a grease gun and the correct socket for undoing the nuts. If one has gone and you're going to get underneath, you might as well do the others. They're probably not far behind. Are these specialists Land Rover specialists? Or just general car spares shops?

Don't buy the cheapo ones. Go for GKN or Hardy Spicer. If it's propshaft u/j's you're talking about even the best ones aren't a lot of money and will fit properly and last a lot longer than the cheap rubbish.

Hi,

This is the part I need to replace..

Can someone tell me what the part is specifically please? The UJ's on eBay look different and are mostly for steering...

Thanks from a luddite!

Get some longer reach grease nipples too. They will make greasing the U/Js a whole lot easier in future.
