No, that makes it more expensive.
I'll reply to me own last post....It wasn't the usual suspects but the gearbox proper with a bearing gone which I was shown. Back together with a recon (guaranteed), new clutch and flywheel. Strangely quiet and no longer hard to select gears when hot, 'twas a pig before.
Having past experience driving an ancient Bedford TK lorry, anything where you don't have to stand up to turn the steering wheel or heave-ho on the pedals is good.
 
£420 inclusive for the gearbox. All the 7 various fitted from the same recon. firm have been good apparently so just parted with the money for a good specimen of the original freelander.
