Did a bit of difficult offroading on friday and the foker is wandering all over the place.

Had a look and the rear track rod is bent, the damper attached is also a bit bashed but still working and not leaking, both the front radius arm mounts are bashed back a bit, and one of the body mounts, and them stupid steps are destroyed.

Am I a bid too agressive or is there other bits I can get to protect it more, I have a steering guard but it only protects the front area. I think it needs deflector plates to take the impact away from the radius arm mounts, but as for the steering rear track rod and damper I dont know.

Once I get them steps off I will make some sliders up but that wont help the radius mounts.

What do you old sweats do, I've seen much more aggresive **** than what I got up to.

Oh and them Colway AT tyres are ****.

It sounds like you were going beyond the scope of your landrovers current setup. Yes you can get protection, but you can also avoid the most damaging obstacles.

You can get steering guards, sump guards, diff gaurds, the steps do just get in the way and end up bent or ripped off.

No big rocks just tree stumps here and there, covered in moss and invisable untill I hit them, going slow as well, but perhaps you are right too hashy, need to get better at reading the hazards but I was going up hill and sliding back was not acceptable since the way back was not straight, I had wiggled my way up past most of the stumps.

You should have a look at some of the protective gear that ARB has to offer.
I know the diff cover is pretty good.

Will do, that's the steering rod and the radius brackets repaired, the damper on the rod is shagged, and I have cut the steps off, the bolts just kept turning in the box section, was surprized how heavy they were.

Job for monday is make up some rock sliders, and I'll see if I can copy some of the ARB stuff.

There is a brilliant guide on here how to make a set, you seen that?

I am going to get some for mine now, after getting run into side on on Friday I want something a bit tougher at my sides.

In Photobucket just click on the link that says image. Under each piccy and it'll copy the link. then paste it into the post and the picture will appear as if by magic.

Sometimes it's worth NOT avoiding the stumps, but putting your wheel on them instead to get extra clearance (I was taught to do this on the Frontera, as it had no suspension protection AT ALL.)

My front protection did the job, but I think I slid over the stump and it caught the rear bar, it was a horrible hill and I was fully loaded and I didn't have the confidence to stop and try and go back in case it rolled because at one point it had actually went right over onto what felt like two wheels.

There were a few young trees about and didnt want to squish them either and upset the farmer, so I dug the fookers out and convieniently moved them now.

Anyway I have made up sliders and trying to post pics of them but it's got me fooked at the minute, if me daughter woz here it would be no probs but she's fooked of to the pictures. But I will keep trying.

First go at posting pics so if it's **** fookit.

Made these sliders today, 4mm plate and the guy bent them for me into chanels. The rest is 2x2 box all welded together and bolted through the sills.

The original steps were **** and hung below the sill levels and caught up on all the crap, I'm hoping these give some protection and that I have done them correctly. If nothing else the mot guy is fooked if he wants to fail my sills for corrosion.
