Im not sure if the britpart mounts will cause you any real issues, they wont be as refined as oe ones but for a crude car like the defender will be fine, I have the britpart ones on mine fine so far.
I have genuine 90 ones on my series 2 with tdi conversion and yes they did make a difference compared to the std small series mounts, but thats an even cruder car!
 
You should be able to put a thumbnail into the rubber of the engine/gearbox mount quite easily, any harder and they will pass quite a bit of vibration.
 
What on earth are you doing coasting at 60mph out of gear?! lol.

12 years/100k is fantastic for a set of UJs in my experience. If you want to be paranoid about sounds/vibrations you've got the right vehicle! (don't forget to worry about the CV joints)

When you've got an engine that is suddenly a lot quieter and smoother you notice other things. After a while I've decided to investigate and sort it out if I can.

Yeah, the mounts should be ok. I'll take the props off first and see what they look like.

IIRC they were pretty hard when I got them. They'll be next on the list after the props for investigation.
 
You could remove each prop in turn and run with diff lock engaged (not at 60mph mind!!) and see if the vibrations change/reduce/disappear
 
Some years ago I happened to be changing a set of uj's when a mate pulled up. He showed me how to put a shallow groove across the end of the bearing spider to help get grease into all cups. He did this with a fine cutting disk in an angle grinder, cleaning up after to get rid of swarf. Did seem to make a difference.
Its' only after reading this thread that I remembered :(:mad: I'll try and remember for next time.
