I'm putting the same thread on several forums in the hope of getting more answers so appologies if you get bored seeing it elsewhere.

Two of the original Michelin Sinchrone's will need replacing soon (225/55R17) and as they aren't available any more I will be replacing the whole set of five.
I was going to go for the Lattitude but speaking to Silverline today they recomended Cooper CS6 which while being a tyre for medium to large cars is reported to be very successful on the Freelander. Anyone got them or aware of anyone with them?

Needless to say that off-road ability is NOT an issue!
 
You've done the right thing speaking to Silverline. I have had a set of Avon Ranger AT one now for a couple of years and they show no real signs of wear (Avon are Coopers UK brand) if you never use it off road and are not bothered about getting stuck in the next lot of snow, go ahead! Otherwise, go for something that whilst being a 4x4 tyre is more road biased.

At the end of the day, people will rarely say what they have bought is crap so getting an honest opinion will be hard...
 
I will be looking for a reasonable but cheap cross tyre 50/50, but there is not a great choice in 225/55/17, can you fit a wider tyre (234/245 perhaps)?

As it is my wife's vehicle and she never ventures off the tarmac off-road ability really isn't an issue, probably the same can be said for the snow as she doesn't go out in bad weather either.
The problem is that in 225/55R17 you are REALLY restricted in tyre choice hence my querey about the Coopers, I am familier with the brand and more than happy to try them but I have not personally heard of anyone using this tyre on a Freelander.
 
Thanks all but I have done the rounds of all the on-line suppliers and know what is out there and what I would & wouldn't fit, it was really a specific querey about the Coopers.
For a tyre that Silverline say is popular and they recomend it seems strange that no-one on any of the forums knows anyone with any experience of them on a Freelander??? In addition, even Cooper themselves don't list it for SUV's, only medium to large cars.

What, that Silverline are telling porkies or just that none of the buyers read any of the forums? Hopefully it is the latter as I have dealt with Silverline for many years and always found them helpful.
 
Got this reply from Cooper yesterday, says it all really and needless to say I won't be going down this route.

Cooper/Avon Tyres are unable to recommend any passenger car tyre for fitment to a vehicle where the original equipment dictates a tyre that
requires the constructional value of a 4x4 tyre, due mainly to the handling difficulties that would be experienced when using tyres not
designed for the height and weight transference built into a 4x4 tyre.

Looks like it's back to the Michelins or a wander across to Pirelli for a try.
