Now I think I have big bill ahead of me, as internet searches seem to advise that all tyres need to match and have the same tread. However will ask anyway.

Basically car has 4x N6000 Nexen tyres fitted. All changed at the same time about a year ago, all with good matching tread depth etc. Front right got a puncture and cannot be repaired,

So far have been unable to locate 2 new N6000's to put on the rear axle and swap the existing rears to the front.
But the spare looks brand new, and I have been able to locate a Pirelli Scorpion of the same size.

Have I got to keep searching for 2xN6000's, or would it be OK to have 2x matching new pirelli's on the rear, and 2 matching fairly new N6000's on the front.

Thanks for any advice,

Cheers

(Should have mentioned its a 2.5 Freelander 1)

Well just managed to find 1x N6000 , which is about as much use as a chocolate teaspoon.

One replacement is fine, if you make sure it goes on the rear, then move the rear to the front. You'll still be ok as the rear tyre will be larger than the front, so the ratio difference between the front and rear will be maintained. ;)

So just to confirm.
3 good tread used tyres (2 on front, 1 on back) and a brand new one on the rear will be ok.

All N6000's, but will have a brand new one and used on rear axle.

Yeh. That will be fine.

More important will be to do regular 1WUT and even more regular air pressure tests on the tyres. Especially test the pressure in all 4 after a tyre monkey has changed 1 of them!

Bugger, the place I found the N6000 have just messaged me to say that they do not have the tyre,.
Looks like the only option I have is to have two new Pirellis on the back and the used N6000's on the front.

If you are going to run mismatched tyres, remove the props and tell your insurance company that's what you've done.

Then when you get matching again, put the props back on.

If you don't want to remove the props, if you run 4WD then the IRD will likely dismember itself and you'll have to remove the props anyway!

Yeah, I’ve been in this quandary and have just taken the pain and gone for four new Cooper Weather Master tyres. I heard the other day about someone who had two different tyre types front and back and his VCU/IRD died almost immediately.
