I have just brought a 300tdi because a white van man killed my 200tdi, the 300 is fitted with 255x16 Hankook tryes anyone know what the pressures should be.

Thanks z4

unless you are constantly carrying weight in the back you should really have more in the fronts as this is where the weight is when empty. i run with 40 all round but they reccomend 36 in the fronts and 32 in the rears

I agree Yella but my landy garage insists its the other way round and so does the Quickfit garage. What can I do?

I don't think it's that at all. If the manufacturer recommends 26psi front and 33psi rear and you decide to inflate them outside of their tolerances you may find yourself in trouble with insurance who won’t cover you and face prosecution by the police especially if your vehicle is involved in an accident.

I agreed with Yella in principal because in my experience he's right about the weight being on the front however I don't pretend to know more than the designers who clearly had reasons to recommend the pressures in that order. I previously wrote that my pressures were 32f & 36r but checked them today and found they were actually 30f and 34r. Slightly above the recommended pressure but still in the same order. I did try them at 36 all round but found the steering too light and the ride harsh.

The vehicle handles really well even in the wet so I'm not about to change :D

I run 245/70 R 16 BFG AT's on my 94 300 Tdi, I run them at 27psi in the front, 35psi in the rear at all times except when towing, when i raise the rear to 40psi.
Any more pressure in the front results in a lot of feedback through the steering wheel, any more in the rear when not towing results in her becoming a little tail happy.
I drive my Disco hard on the road, and these settings work for me. Well impressed with the tyres too, had Goodyear ATR's before (235/70 R 16) which I liked, but the Goodrich's are a definite improvment, and after a year and 14000 miles still look like new.
There,
My 2 pence's worth, hope its some help to someone!
