Good morning.
I have fitted a set of General Grabber TR 235/85 tyres on Defender alloys to my 90 300TDI. I am having difficulties finding the correct trye pressures that these should be inflated to for normal road use.
Your help would be appreciated.

I'd say about 45PSI. I used to run at 50PSI all round with my smaller tyres but apparently that doesn't do them any good. I'd have thought having more air in them would be better, plus you get better milage. My new 235x85's are at 45 each and seem alright. I've managed to make them screech braking though, which my old ones never did, more air would make them dangerous!
 
45psi is waaayyyy too high.
30psi all round is a good starting point. Up to 40psi in the rear if you're heavily loaded.
 
Knew you'd say that! 45 is not toooo high! Any less with my N/A and it wont get anywhere!
 
Mine did...

draw a chalk line across the tread, drive a few feet forwards, see i the line is more worn off in the middle or the outside edge - ideally you want each tyre set to the right pressure so the line rubs off most evenly. Any different from this you will be over stressing the steering, getting uneven wear on the tyres, using too much fuel, or not getting enough tyre in contact with the road so affecting braking performance and handling.
 
I have been playing around with tyre pressures for a while and have found that 28psi in the front and 32psi in the rear works best for me. I have 235 x 85's, 28psi in the front seemed to stop a lot of the wandering you can get especially on off beat country lanes etc. The 32psi is dependant on the load you are carrying. Give it a try, it may work for you

almost agree.....i have BFG ATs on 235 85's and ran with 28, 30 and 32 on the front and found 28th best 'feel' etc and 35 on the rear.

matter of opnion tho!

Where were you trying to go? If you were off road it is usually the lower the better. With the old fashioned stiff crossply mud tyres you could be down to 10, but with modern radials somewhere between 25 & 30 seesm the norm. 45 is much too high.
 
35 in the front and 42 in the backs- General Grabber at2's.
The book reckons it should be 28 in the front and 48 in the backs;)
 
Ah dunno! I wuz gonna come roon an mind ye on at lunch time but the missus collered me tae gan oot fur lunch so i kinda didnae make it

Ah had to go out meself to see about some stuff and that's how ah forgot about it. Ah even forgot what ah went tae Mcdermids fur asweel!!
