I'm in the process of putting new shoes on my TD5. An "in the know" friend told me unless I replace all my tyres in one go, and with identical new tyres, I'll wind up my transfer box and pop it.!
Is he right or is he taking the **** or just being thick and not really in the know.
Thanks
Leaky!

Hello

Ive always changed me rubber by the axle.

Its better than having odd tread patterns on the same axle and is a lot safer than mix and match.

As for doing all 4 at once~ well that sounds a bit daft and bloody expensive to me !!!!!

Sounds like your friend is an expert !!!!!

EX ~ AS IN A HASBEEN!!!!
SPERT ~ AS IN A BIT OF A DRIP !!!!!!!!!!!:D

Some vehicles without centre diffs can be a little precious about exact rolling diameter of each wheel, even down to the same size tyre but with different tread depth, but only in 4WD and only on hard surfaces. Not usually as much of a problem on other vehicles and on softer surfaces. The centre diff does just what a front diff does in allowing one side to turn at a different pace than the other. It's best to try and keep them all the same size tyre but dont get caught up in "having" to get all 4 at once!!!

we don't just drive in straight lines so if his theory is correct you will allways be getting wind up. But then they introduced the transfer box which has the option to slip as the diffs do.

I just think he is winding you up.

Keep the axle's in pairs is always good.
