Hi all, I have a 51 plate td4 with 195/80 R15 tyres on, at the mo I have got General grabbers on, they were on when I bought the car a year ago. The front tyres have about 3mm of tread and the rear tyres have about 5-6mm of tread on them now and I am considering replacing all of them. After reading threads on here and advise given by other freelander owners and Bell engineering my thoughts are, do I replace two of them with new grabbers and put the worn ones 5-6mm on the front! Do I replace all of them with new grabbers all round at £71 a corner or do I replace all of them with wranglers at £68 a corner? The grabbers have been great and hardly any noise. No experience of the wranglers, but they are an all weather tyre, where as the grabbers are summer tyres.(My preferred tyre Dragon would be Singvogel) but all advise much appreciated. FD

This is what most people do , As long as the 5-6mm one's are in good nick move to front !

Cheers DTO, yeah that's what my wallet wants me to do as well. But still got the guys voice in my head from Bell engineering who checked it all out for me this summer, saying for the sake of a couple hundred notes change all four tyres and in the long run save yourself a fortune in drive train damage!!!

These are the Grabbers I have on at the moment http://www.oponeo.co.uk/Temp/general-grabber-hp-jpg-t-f-l600-sk3.png they have been great and everyone who has been in it cannot believe how quiet they are! But I don't know any different they were on when I brought it.

Re-balance the worn ones (check for condition of tyre not just tread depth. Perishing etc) on the front and new ones on the back. Which tyres to go for depends on what your using it for.

You have Grabber HP's. opposed to AT's or AT2's. make sure new tyres are same pattern not just same brand.

cheers Melon, rear tyres are in really good nick and I don't go off road or tow anything just a lot of country lane driving and with snow on the way maybe, thought I might be as well changing them for another type?

If they are Gragger uhp they only have about 7 or 8 mm new so not very worn. Put them on the front and match new rears.

Both the generals and the wranglers are good tyres. Try to find out how they are rated against each other (cant remember of top of my head) as all new tyres as of 01/11/12 have to be graded A - G on fuel efficiency and wet grip as well as noise levels. Most garages will try to push their chosen brand so be warey. And stay away from strangely named Buget alternatives.

And yes I do this for a living.

I just fitted hankook A/Ts 195/80/15 for winter at £58 a corner They seem ok so far
