Hi guys,

I have some Greenway Macho tyres on my disco. They've been great since buying the truck recently but two are low and very perished. I understand that they went bust in 07 and I'm having areal struggle finding some replacement tyres in the same size - 33x12.50R16

I have just won some 33x13.5r16 mudzillas on eBay but just noticed that they are LT tyres. Are these ok to use on a 2 tonne disco?

Any help appreciated

That's epic! Lol

I'm not concerned about the size, just the LT designation. I've no idea if it is ok for a disco. Wikipedia says 1280kgs for a 117 marked tyre

The car is just used for laning and off road events but it is driven to and from them. Furthest I'd been since buying it was whaddon which is 30 mins from me but I took it to the Peak District on a laning trip last weekend and that was 2.5 hours each way.

My plan was to buy the four mudzillas, put them on and buy one additional modular and keep one of the old machos as a spare. Trouble is this LT business, I've no idea if they are safe or just made for little Jimnys etc.

never thought of it being an issue

Is it that they are a stronger tyre ie higher ply?

I guessed as it was a LT designation it would be weaker than a non LT designation by from what I can find online, it seems it is just marking that it is stronger than a "passenger"/normal tyre?

LT means Light Truck. These are more hardwearing than standard tyres and have stronger sidewalls so they can carry heavier loads. The max load marked on the sidewall is the max load per tyre at the given pressure. So if you have 4 tyres with a 117 load index, the max GVW the tyres can carry is 5120 kg, significantly higher than the max GVW of your disco. However, if you run the tyres at a lower pressure for offroading, then the max load of the tyre will be reduced.

Thank you for the reply Martin, exactly what I was after.
