At 2:30 am this morning (Sep 29th) some scumbags broke into the workshops of Staffordshire 4x4 and made off with a Red 90 300tdi Hardtop and a Silver 110 as well as a huge amount of tools etc. Both quite distinctive vehicles, please keep an eye out, thanks.

surely if they are distinctive then a few descriptions of the distinctive features might help a bit here, a plate is easy to swap

Astonishing how these Land Rovers just disappear.
Where are they all going....none with tracking devices fitted? And it just goes on and on over years. Are we not catching any of these thieves or gangs?
Although l guess more come when they are put away. The thieves who stole my friend's 90 were caught after Police tracked it, so they fortunately got it back within a few hours. Both were immigrants, and were bailed.....and disappeared.

There's a big export market at the minute involving old 4x4's, vans, pickups and executive cars such as pajeros/shoguns, sprinters, cabstars and E class/5 series etc, and lots of people advertising to buy them, any condition as long as they run. Most end up on Africa's west coast due to the change in world economics ie, our scrap being of decreasing value and these regions benefitting from Chinese investment. Their building sites and their bosses etc need these vehicles and paperwork is of no importance. It's so cheap to put something in a container and send it there it's no wonder it's a booming business. While ratty merc sprinters and pajeros and massive petrol engines German execs are of little value here and can be bought legally (or nicked and nobody cares cus they're worthless) defenders are not of little value so need be stolen. Obviously lots get stripped here but a lot just vanish, never to be seen again. Probably stuffed in a container. Cabstars are also very popular, my friend has one that's over 20 years old and works the b@lls off it and every couple of months somebody attempts to steal it because they're just so good and the Africans will pay a good price, keys or not. Of course, where stripping them in UK for parts is concerned, that will surely stop one day, when there's not enough legitimate buyers left to buy the bits. People should be very wary when buying second hand bits and ask why the part is for sale anyway. If a breaker has everything for sale except a chassis and v5, alarm bells should be ringing.

Just as a very late update: Staffordshire police didn't give up on this, and tracked down and arrested the culprit. He has just been sentenced (last week) to just over 2 years inside. Full story here:

All they recovered of mine was a snorkel and four (virtually brand new) Boost Alloys with BFG a/t tyres. (If anyone want them let me know, as I no longer have a car to put 'em on!)

Bugger, bit of an insult them giving you some bits back

May be interested in the wheels, l live near Stockport Cheshire.
How much do you want for them?

And yes, a bit sad that is all you got back....

I was amazed to hear that they had stripped my 90 and the other guy's 110 down to individual parts, packaged them and shipped virtually all of them out of their workshop within 24 hours of nicking the vehicles. The parts that were left when the workshop was raided were already wrapped in bubble wrap and strapped to pallets. When the police invited me to come and identify some parts, we calculated that there had been at least 6 other Defenders in there, just by counting up the things like propshafts and diffs that were floating around.

If you don't mind collecting from near Wolverhampton I would be looking for around £500 for the four wheels and tyres as a set. They have done less than 600 miles since they were bought new, and look mint...

At least they caught somebody.
Where are the parts "shipped out" to? Wolverhampton is a bit too far from me l'm afraid.
