My 2001 td5 has decided to launch the 2 amigos tc abs it also show the diff lock symbol this eventually goes off and leaves just the 2 Mexicans.no fault code stored. sometimes the lights will clear after a run. can leave car couple of hours then on restart without moving they come back.

As far as I know it the centre diff is locked and the light is on then it limits traction control and abs input for off-road driving however you can beat the system by starting the car with the diff lock already engaged.
It might be worth ensuring the diff is definitely in the unlocked position by crawling underneath with a spanner, on the top of the front output shaft housing is where the difflock linkage would attach.

However if you aren't noticing any tyre scrubbing or poor handling on corners etc most likely the centre diff isn't engaged in which case it'll just be a short on the switch.

It doesn't have a diff lock lever but I suppose could have been manually selected. I have only covered 350 ish miles since owning but it does have some odd cornering. where would I find the switc or wires that may be shorting.

Those 2 amigos + locked diff warning are deffinitely the result of an erratic locked diff input, the spade connectors for the switch are usually connected to it or just hanging there and if the one which brings the signal touches earth that's what happens also the switch is poor design as well and used to develop a short to earth so if it's still connected unplug it and make sure the connectors dont touch earth, you'll have to crawl under and find the pointed switch or adjacent wiring the important one is black/blue trace wire(C0306/0307)
