Afternoon all,
Another day, another heart ache!
Just returned from a 300mile round trip in the Freelander in one piece [gotta be worth a cheer :beer2:] but it's developed yet another piece of the rich tapestry I like to refer to as 'character'.
Having replaced the VCU, bearings and front prop shaft I now find it far quieter to drive, except when braking when there is an intermittent [ie. not everytime, but I'd say in the majority of instances] sound of rubber undergoing torsion when coming to the last 10yards of a full on stop.
Having browsed the forum, searched the web and generally asked all those claiming to be in the know I think I've got a fairly good grasp of where to start looking but it's always good to ask around.
Initial thoughts were that the diff mounts are allowing twist/bounce as the front wheels start to slow and the effect is transmitted along the prop. Other thoughts are more brake related [well, it does only happen when braking after all].
I think it best to replace the existing diff mounts anyway [84k on the original items] so can anyone recommend a good manufacturer/web based supplier? Bearmach worth going for?
Looks like this weekend will be drop link and diff mount day. Spanners out
