I have a 110 td5 that turns over but doesn't start. Ran great previously but not today. Cannot hear the fuel pump priming, but it was replaced 2 years ago because it was antisocially noisy. Pulled off the return fuel pipe off the cooler and got no fuel. Sprayed engine start up the intake and it fired up briefly. Removed the pump relay and it metered ok. Bypassed the relay with wire and fuel flowed but still wouldn't start. Any ideas?
 
Check your fuses and the pump relay under the drivers seat. On mine it is the smallest black one of the three under there.

Sounds like a duff pump
 
Hi, have checked all the fuses and my pump relay on my 1999 is green and under the dash. opened up the relay and tested its operation. I bypassed the contacts and fuel seemed to flow out of the disconnected pipe. But I cannot hear the pump running or get the car started.

Does this mean it's been stood two years? How long ago did it run properly?

I'm thinking of simple stuff like congealed fuel blocking pipes, fuel filter, blocked air filter, etc
 
All of them, 2 of them were £4 each and the other smaller one was £11 or something like that.

I was gone test them with a variable power supply to see if the voltage drop from the battery when the start motor kicks in is enough for the relay contact to drop but I can't find my power supply.

I did a static test with a multimeter and not with any load etc. will order new ones anyway.
The car is used most days and ran fine apart from being a bit kanagroo ish at slow speeds.The car had done over 220,000 miles without many issues.
 
Yeah, I did a static check but used I only had a fully charged battery as a trigger 12.7 volts and just used a continuity checker across the other 2 pins.
 
Have you checked for continuity of the wiring between the relay and the pump? And also checked voltage at the pump end? Also, does the fuel pump relay click when it's supposed to? Just work back from the pump back to the battery if you think the pump is fine?

I have taken the cover off the relay and it clicks in when the ignition is turned on. Should you hear the fuel pump priming? The old pump changed 2 years and 20k miles ago was very noisy. Haven't really heard or noticed the new pump since. When the pump was changed there was some oil in the tank. I bought some injector seals and washers but haven't got around to changing them. Could this cause premature pump wear etc.
