I think its made in the UK hating land of Argentina but any way. After a bit more research they apparently have the same gearbox ratios as a series 2, dose anyone know if they just had a standard series 2 gearbox or where they extra heavy duty. They also apparently used the same ring and pinion ratio as the standard series axels, they were extra heavy duty versions so I'm guessing that they were 24 spline all round like defender axels.
yeah your right you are good with your Volkswagen stuff, i just had a look on wiki, and found this.

so they are made in Argentina, and as well Germany but as of next year Algeria, only reason why i thought they were made in china is that i read on a forum a few years ago that Volkswagen make many cars in a Chinese factory or factories, but some new cars these days could be manufactured anywhere and it could be quite hard to find out exactly unless you find out where they were originally shipped from in a way.

also i hear that Argentina has a larger navy and military these days and people reckon if they wanted Falklands back it could be easy as the UK don't have the stuff they did back in 1982.

Do you really need the extra payload ??? or just after the look (Genuine 1 tons are like rocking horse poo and not the easiest things to live with with the low ratio box top speed is decidedly compromised )

IF it's just the look ....then go for a "Combat/military" chassis as its basically the same with the extended spring hangers etc ....the 900x16 tyres as fitted to 1 tons will fit easily as on one of my FFR's

Just a thought ???

I was looking for it on the basis I a mechanical engineer and was considering going into business for my self in the next few years and wanted one as a work van as often where i live access to hydro/forestry equipment is all off the beaten track or estate gravel roads. I was wanting the payload for a self contained workshop i was going to design to drop in the 109 load area, as once i calculated most of the equipment/a decent payload left to carry spares then it would be around a ton. Also thought the 109 dressed as a 1ton would make quite a good advertisement as i haven't seen any up where i live and show off what i can do. I know that a defender would do the same thing but there are loads of them up hear so they wouldn't standout. I personally prefer the series look to the defender.

1 ton has a std series 3 g/box ,which contra to popular belief is stronger than a s2,but transfer box differs ,stronger with lower ratio, and because of that so does the gear box mainshaft, salisbury is 24 spline front not .heavy duty refers to the brakes, as fitted to 109 v8 too

Right thanks I was just thinking of an t230 with the lowest gears possible in it i think and some upgrades from ash crofts along with a part time 4 wheel drive kit.

Yes unfortunately think your correct though the UN just gave or are considering giving (not sure) Argentina the 200 mile exclusive economic zone around the falklands and it wasn't really covered in the uk news.

I'd always prefer the series look ;-)
if it was me I'd be going heavy duty combat chassis, tdi and 5 speed box with permanent 4x4....
TDi will be plenty happy pulling the 900's too for the 1 ton look

I heard the UN and Nato cant be trusted as there is a bit of corruption in there somewhere, and also in regards to Nato, apparantly they were introduced as a measure to stop soviets from expanding and control them during the cold war, yet the cold war and the soviet unioin no longer exist so in reality Nato should cease to exist, but they are still there, i dont think the west has ever trusted the russians even when the russians helped the allies in WW2.
anyway im getting off the subject,

Tony.
