My defender "jumps, misses" when at high revs. I've been told that's it's the turbo, does this sound correct? He says a new turbo is £550!!
:confused::confused:

shouldnt think so ,it can wear and pass more oil thans good or catch blades on the housing,if its a td5 wastegate jams causing incorrect air pressure so confusing engine ecu .200 or 300 tdi id look at air in fuel system or poor lift pump first

Many thanks. It doesn't seem to want to "pull" after 50 mph. It does feel like the turbo's not doing it's job. It's good to get some other things it could be, so I can go back to this guy

The guy plugged into his computer this morning, and it had loads of faults. He said he would be better to clear them all, then see what came back up in a couple of weeks. What I didn't get is why this problem wasn't on there somewhere.

Which problem??? Its not going to say 'chugs a bit at 50mph'.

Clear all the faults diagnosed then see if it still points to turbo...500 new OEM on ebay or 200 used with short guarantee.

Wow, didn't relies landyzone were full off patronising ****s!!
None of the faults pointed to the turbo. I'm trying find out if he's trying to make £500 quid out of me. Surely if it was a problem with the turbo, it would have been on the list of faults that came up?

Well it took 8 hours before you said which vehicle you have.

You named the turbo in your first post.

James offered his opinion (he knows everything there is to know)

I found you cheaper parts than your mechanic.

Does that make it patronising?

Hmm...7 posts and you throw your toys out...this is free advice and you're calling US names!!

Politely as possible, **** off and do it yourself.

As I said. A couple of weeks ago, I'm new to this. What I do know is it won't say "chugs at fifty"
But not knowing much about defenders, I'm trying to give you guys all the things this guy said, and done.
If it is the turbo, then fine, I'll get it done. Just thought this guy was a bit un- interested and just cleared all the faults without even looking.

If he's cleared the faults does it still run poorly as before?

Has it had a good service recently?

I'm not famed for my tolerance i'm afraid.

allready told you its not turbo itself ,wastegates sieze confusing ecu etc what where fault codes ,,engine chuffs at 50 is not alot to go on

Can I just clear this up. I've been on this forum twice. Once to join and then today. I put in the details of my landy etc the first time. I've no idea how this forum works or less so how my defender works. Like the previous thread said, I've only posted/ threaded 7 times. I'm not an expert in landys, so you may need to give me some leeway. As you can imagine 4 weeks after I purchase the car I'm possible looking at £500.

Thanks for your advice, I'll take it back to this guy.
I'll try to explain a bit more. In fourth with your foot down, it gets to the stage when it needs to go into fifth and start to stutter( it's still pulling intermittently), I put it into top and it's fine until it gets to 55/60, then does the same again. If you ease back the throttle it stops and seams fine. If I very gently push the throttle it's fine, but stick your foot straight down, it does it again.
It does still do it even though it's had all it's faults cleared.
