I know nothing about turbos.

The small arm that attaches to the exhaust manifold (wastegate arm :confused:) is very rigid, i can get some movement if i push it towards the bulkhead with a flatblade screwdriver. is this normal, should it be easy to push back and forward?

Is this why i can only do 65mph and have very little turbo whistle??

No they are usualy stiff. If it was jammed open you would hear no turbo whistle, I it was jammed shut you would go reallly fast, then something would blow up!

If it was a TD5 you'd go really slow.:mad::eek::D
 
Hmm..maybe its jammed open then as i go slow and hear no whistle...should i be able to see it open and shut if i get someone to sit in the cab and give it some revs?

Oo not 100% sure. Would be interested to kno! You might have to rev quite high tho..? I think the engine might have to be under load before it boosts?

Don't think you would see it open on it's actuator.. I have a turbo gauge and when I rev the engine, at a standstill, the gauge hardly moves. The turbo only works under load. I.e driving. My gauge shows the turbo working the most when accelerating up a hill in 3rd
 
They are very stiff to push and thats how they are.
As said only way you will see it move is under load, never at a standstill no matter how hard you rev it.
Ignore the turbo and look at the pump if you want more power.

Take the small air pipe off that connects to the actuator and apply compressed air at about 10psi. You should see the arm move. Release the air and it should return. If not somethings stuck or the actuator diaphragm is split.
 
with the actuator arm disconnected from the waste gate lever you should be able to freely move waste gate flap. easy way to check it not seized too
