I've just bought a turbo vent filter and fuel filter to replace the old ones, but cant seem to find the turbo vent filter. The car is a 2004 facelift freelander. I did however notice some oil coming from one of the screw holes, the left hand side one in the front engine cover. Is this normal? I removed the dipstic with the engine running, and no oil splashed out from there. I will put some pictures of the screw hole in question later.. I have reached right behind the engine on the left hand side (Standing in front) but cannot locate the filter anywhere, is it somewhere else on the facelift?

They all leak oil out of the engine cover screw hole when running if the screw is not in.
As for the turbo vent filter, check that you have three pipes coming out of the turbo vent solenoid, and follow the pipe till you find the filter as some times they do fall down the back of the engine. If you don't have the three pipes then it is likely that someone has fit a erg valve solenoid instead of the turbo solenoid, there was a issue a while ago when L/R got a batch of erg solenoids in the wrong boxes.

I've taken some pictures today, I cant see any pipes behind the engine that have the filter on them, I've even looked through the wheel lining with a torch and can see nothing. The only weird thing that I could see was something that looked like a gator on the right hand side of the engine bay, this had a tube coming out of it that looked like it had been cut. I have attached the pictures.
What is this?

what you are looking at is the vacuum reservoir, all the pipes should be attached unless it the feed to the ERG valve that has been blanked off.
Find the turbo solenoid located at the side of the turbo it should have three outlets, one pressure in, one out to turbo the third to vent filter. Do a search on here regarding turbo solenoid and you will find pictures.

Here is a picture of the front of the turbo, and a shot from behind the wheel arch. As I said I cannot see a turbo vent filter, and there is no erg mod either as far as I can tell.

It hangs down between the bulkhead and engine on the left hand side.

Pic attached for reference (although my engine is in bits at the moment because I'm changing the thermostat).

be a pic there of the turbo vacuum solenoid
and a description of where the hoses connect ..
one of them connects to that turbo vent filter ..

if you have the right turbo vacuum solenoid ..
and attach the filter to the proper hose ..
make sure the filter sits high so it don't get wet 'n clog up
( filter is normaly situated next to the ird breather pipe .. small pipe with a 'hooked' top
( top back of engine .. u.k. drivers side

get right underneath the car and look up and forwards. Above the engine splash shield / sump guard is the IRD box and above that the turbocharger. There is a small diameter braided hose coming from the turbo a short distance to a three-way valve block. The other two connections to this valve block as the vacuum line from the vac pump and the last one is the line with the filter on it.

The braided hose (I assume from the vac pump to the 3way ) is visible in your last set of photos, second and third pics.

Try looking through the drivers wheel arch where the track rod goes through the wing you should see it from there easier

So I can see the braided pipe in the pics, do you think the filter may be close by? Hidden right behind the engine?

Going to have anther look at this tomorrow, and replace the fuel filter, anyone have any ideas were this filter could possibly be located and if it could have been replaced with something else?

Looking at your picture looking taken thru' the wheel arch you can see some empty clips attached to the plastic ducting between the turbo & MAF where the vacuum pipe from the solenoid would be routed up to the top and the filter.

Hope this makes sense...

Hi Neil,

I followed those up, there was a braided one that wasn't clipped, going into the rear of the engine, behind the oil filler cap, but I don't think it was that. I really don't know where it is. I may have to unbolt the rear engine plastic cowling to see if its underneath that.

Fuel filter is in the rear wheel arch , loads of info on here with pics ,
Not the best place to put it ! No sign of the turbo vent filter , get a new one , sort a lenth of pipe , and as already said , locate the solenoid and replace pipe and filter !

Did a service today on the car, changed the crank case filter, air filter, oil filter an 6l of oil. I had the engine cover off, and still couldnt see the turbo vent filter, or any sign of it.
Does anyone have a picture of the solenoid valve and where it cmes from so that I can check mine.

No pics , but can be seen through nearside wheel arch , so looking at engine from the front , righthand bolted to back of engine block !
