After having a rattle for some time, I was beginning to deduce it was an injector issue (after thinking it was something trapped in the wheel). However, after looking to see if I had a FBH, I’ve noticed this thing resting on the steering rack/bar/whatsit - what is it? Should it be there? And will it survive a 100 mile drive back home? It’s been rattling for some time now, is this the cause of the metallic scraping noise (which happens when stationary though).

I’ll re-title this thread, or delete, once the mystery is solved.

It’s the turbo vent filter and should be hanging down the back of the engine but it shouldn’t be resting there

I see, thank you. Any advice on how I can move it to where it should be? I’ve had a look from above and it seems I’d need to remove some things to get access.

look directly behind the oil filler cap ..
you'll see a hooked shaped pipe with an open end ..
that's the ird oil breather pipe ..
there might be a clip on that pipe to retain that little turbo vacuum filter
( that's where it's fitted originally )
if the clip's missing .. a couple of small cable ties will do the job ..
just make sure that filter is situated where it won't get wet ..
and that the open end is clear to 'breathe' ..
