Help please, when i get my freeby on the boost it sounds, in the car, like ive put the heater fan on full, i know its not that but that's the sound i can hear, like there's an air leak under pressure somewhere, also allot of black smoke when boosting, im certain its not the actual turbo but more the air flow side, turbo is only 10000 miles old and sounds fine, ive cleaned for now and intend to replace crank case filter, so its not that, any ideas would be gratefully received, many thanks for reading.:confused:

My d3 was smoking heavy (black) on aceleration turned out to b intercooler pipe. Might be worth a look cheep fix

Well, checked out all your suggestions, still no joy, had to book it in with the stealer and take the hit, hope it is just a pipe. Thanks any way:fighting2:

doesn't need a dealer to check intercooler hoses, esp long one across top of engine where it rubs on the screw for the engine cover

black smoke and low power generally point to one of the intercooler pipes. you cant always see the splits when off/ticking over its only under load when accelerating that you'd see. for the sake of 30 quid for two new pipes and 10 minutes work i'd change em anyway and if its still the same give it the dealer then.....

These cooler pipes, are they the hard plastic ones top front of engine or the flexi ones as i have had a right good look at all pipes?

As op says above.
Check the long left hand Flexible, one it normally wears through underneath where it rubs on a screw head ........you won't see it but feel underneath to the right hand side.

I had the same problem, it turned out to be the sensor at the end of the fuel rail, the wiring back to the ECU to be exact. It must have been over fuelling.

I replaced one of mine recently - the one from the intercooler to the manifold - I couldn't see or feel a hole with it fitted but a couple of days later it "popped" and then i could see the hole (could fit 3 fingers in it) it was just below where the screw head had worn the hose away.

Mine was very awkward to get off as the screw head on the bottom jubilee clip is in a bad position - i had to get a flexible screwdriver from halfords with a 6mm socket head on it.
The pipe (it looks like 2 flexible pipes with a hard plastic section with a sensor in the middle) was around £56 from my local landrover dealer.

I think prior to 2003 it was just one long pipe without tha air sensor........either way you can buy the older version and cut it down for use on the later model.

thats what i did...bought the earlier pipe for 20 quid then cut it to the same sizes as the original pipe and away you go...30 quid saved!

as others have stated, you can't always see/feel any slits/holes in them til you get them off and pull em around...

ahh, mine is an 05 so i just punted up the full amount - could have re-used the old sensor but it looked a bit past it and well coated with grime when i inspected it

on the nail there, my 90 degree pipe had a slit, almost as if a stanly knife did it, from underneath. about 15mm long, couldn't find it until a mate revved, pipe expands, hole becomes obvious. You never find a slit unless you rev and check or take off and inspect.

Found it! left hand pipe, stab wound! beer can, some duct tape and cable ties for a temp fix, took it for a spin and all is fine. Will order a new one now I know witch one it is, thanks for all the help, you have saved me a few quid I reckon.

Is the part number for the left hand hose as you look in the bonnet PNH000020 the one that comes from the cooler to the engine, cheers.

Google the part number and you'll see what comes up. But I'm pretty sure it's the one just behind the dipstick on the left.
