Eavning all.
Turbo change to do on my Genuine defender 200,
going to just unbolt the old one off the manifold and new one on instead of taking the manifolds off,
So far I've got,
1x Turbo technics/ Allisport vgt turbo kit,
New oil & filter,
Replacement turbo manifold studs
Turbo manifold & down pipe gaskets.

Got to change over oil feed & return lines for new ones, all comes with the kit.
Am I missing anything else stupidly obvious I need to get? Got all new silicone hoses already fitted with double depth intercooler.

Cheers

Not sure what the access is like for the four nuts holding the turbo to the manifold on a Defender.
On a Disco its a mare of a job or often is even with the manifold off. Them nuts is well seized on.

Do a 0-60 and top gear 30-60mph timed runs with the old turbo and then with the new to see what improvement you get.

Ignore my last!

This looks interesting. Don't forget to put up loads of pictures for us.

Well I started at 5pm and I've just got in cleaned up and had a cupa tea! A lot long than I thought it would take, no pictures as I was head to toe in oil after the first job of draining the oil!!!!
-Drained oil and put new oil filter on.
-dropped exhaust down pipe
-removed air box and intercooler pipes
-Was planning on keeping the manifolds on the head but no room to undo the turbo of it, so had to take it off,
-remove old oil feed& return lines fitted new different ones as provided
-cleaned cylinder head and put new exhaust/intake gasket on
-Turbo unbolted straight off the manifold with no problems off the studs or nuts shearing off..
-Bolted the new one on with a new tin gasket.
- fitted manifolds back on
-fitted exhaust back up to it
-re connected intercooler hoses/air box
-filled engine with oil
-disconnect fuel pump live
-crank engine over till fresh oil out of turbo oil inlet hose
- connect oil inlet hose to turbo
-crank engine over till oil out of the oil return pipe
-connect up oil return line
-top engine with oil as required
-re connect fuel pump live,

Jobs done runs sweet as a nut, completely different exhaust note as from before.
Waiting for a pod filter in the morning and will take it for a test drive!

Well got a pod air filter fitted on the turbo now and been driving it all day, turbo is stupidly loud you can only just hear the engine over the turbo roar and intake noise! Between gears it sounds like a dump valve, it has just made the truck so much more fun!!! :D instant boost straight away, no turbo lag, only downside I must say if anything it has too much boost!
People turning and looking down the road at my truck hearing the bloody turbo noise!!

No I didn't bother, goes a lot better I'll say that! It just has instant boost so picks up and goes straight away.
