I was told by my mot tester that if there's visible proof that there should be an egr valve fitted then it should be present, as the blanking plant is visible on a 300 it should be a fail if the egr valve is missing. My friendly mot tester just shrugged his shoulders and said it was present when he tested and I must have removed it soon afterwards :D

I am furious about this and have just emailed Gov.uk for an explanation.

Good on you. Thanks. It is a bit of a fiasco IMHO.

It is further complicated by the fact that a 7 seat vehicle doesn't need a CAT under the C&U regs ( also done to death on here ) - BUT - if one was fitted at the factory, then it must be fitted under the new MOT regs ( or, for the avoidance of doubt, that is my understanding of said regs ) ...

And, further complicated by the fact that on a pre 2001 vehicle, warning lights remaining on are not an automatic fail....

Irrespective; I'm grateful that they have no way of testing function of the bits in question .... I also doubt that this is practical due the small number of vehicles involved....

This is kinda where I'm heading although I did check everything, and double check and check again!

It doesn't do it when just revving only when boosting under load and believe me I've tried to recreate endless times. I guess it could be exhaust related although on inspection that also looks good and it does sound like the siren hails from the passenger/airbox side.

One thing about the intake mine seems to have a MAF sensor or such like?? But I've seen loads of 300's without this. Is this a Jap import thing or a year/variation thing? I also removed cleaned, refitted said MAF with no improvement!

Check the thin boost hose from the turbo (bottom) to the fuel injection pump, they can split or holes wear in them ...

Also was the 90 degree bend hose a good make, some cheap ones delaminate as quick as look at them ...

Did you check the exhaust manifold ? Any black marks to show leakage ?

Blimey, it sounds like a bit of a minefield, so if I have a non-EDC disco I'm more likely to be ok to remove the EGR so long as it didn't have a cat fitted when it left the factory?? .... is that somewhere about right?? in fact, don't answer that hahaha!! I'll have a good look at all the info and decide what to do once I've cured the siren that the blower makes every time I put my foot down!! but thanks for the insight and info about this I defo have some reading to do!

Ok one more question on this if I may? mine is a 7 seat BUT due to it being an import even Land Rover doesn't seem to be able to tell me what was fitted when it came out of the factory. I am reminded of this literally every time I want any part for it from bloomin anywhere!! not to mention that none of the insurance companies that I have spoken to have the details either, do you think I could be lucky enough to be able to use this as an excuse if it ever came up?

Changed all these bits for what I hope are reasonable quality replacements

It is a fiasco. No - do not remove the EGR .... I'd keep reading the regs until it all becomes clear.........

Emissions are not the issue - the regs state that the EGR must be fitted - it's been done to death on here - probably about the time the regs changed in May last year IIRC.

Historic passes are irrelevant - what matters is; if it was fitted at the factory, then it must be fitted now. And VOSA can tell this from the VIN. Even if the MOT tester turns a blind eye, then, in the event of an accident and a potential vehicle inspection - there is the potential for your insurance company to say that it doesn't meet C&U regs and therefore you are not insured .... You might consider this scare mongering or just plain rubbish - I don't - it's your call - depends how much corporate bullying you think you have the stomach for.....

Both our D1's have the EGR's fitted, and the MOT tester did check, quite thoroughly, that they were present too.

In terms of EDC, yes, sadly I have plenty of experience of it, so much so, I took it off my D1 auto.

As it happens, both our smoke test results are very low - IIRC, round about 0.2 - so, significantly less than the limit of 3.

There's no 'blind eye' to turn regarding an MOT pass. It passes and that is that. Mine just passed again as it always does. To be honest matey you seem to be scaremongering and being a bit of a chicken-little about this EGR thing.

Insurers are NOT going to go to the extent of scouring an engine for a tiny modification that, for all intents and purposes was done decades ago with prior owners / or indeed the factory itself, it would take a forensic examination and tear-down to even try and attempt this lunacy.

As for the GOV.uk thing. I got an email, in fact 2 from them today.
The situation is a fudge and lord knows why they changed it.
You CAN access it, but they make it look like you can't as I already described, i.e you seem to have to log on as an MOT tester, etc.
I'm so ferked off with it I am going to start a new thread on , dunno, "Anything goes?" to let people know how to do it.

Utter rubbish. The MOT regs say that if fitted from new, it must be fitted - therefore, if it passes without, the MOT test was not done correctly. I am not scaremongering. I was trying to help the OP

Really? When you have been involved in a large insurance claim and had an aneurysm rupture due the stress of same - You might have some experience of what ins co's will do, and probably, a different outlook. :)

Sadly, I speak from experience. ( although, the aphasia due said aneursym is a PITA )

That's fck all to do with mechanical vehicle insurance and yes I do have experience in this industry.

Yeah and I'm sure you can tell the difference on if it was fitted at the instant of manufacture and a few months / years down the line. Get real with the scaremongering. You'll be stirring it over if someones signal lights don't flash the necessary 90 - 120 times a minute next. LOL
