Hi all

I have just had the nice AA man out to tell me my turbo has blown? The wife was driving and informed me the car revved itself up, kicked out loads of smoke and cut out. She started up again and drove home. I then took it for a spin as everything seemed fine, under load it started to rattle from under the bonnet and kicked out a **** load of smoke. I eased of the revs and it drove okay. I thought the oil was low so added half a litre of oil and the dip stick registered loads. So I drove home and phoned the AA.

Whilst waiting for the AA I jumped on the forums and thought it might have been simple things like a sticking wastegate but when the AA man turned up and started it up, the engine went to max revs and he panicked, turned of key and put it in to drive to stall it. He said straight away it was the turbo and the proceeded to take off some pipes to show me. He said to find a reliable indie to replace it as there could be underlying reasons as to why it has failed, blocked pipe etc.

I am zero mechanical minded so haven't got a clue where to start, so can anyone advise of a good indie near Runcorn Cheshire and whether I should attempt to start it as it is blocking the drive and I need to get the motorcycle out so the wife can get to work.

Many thanks in advance, John.

It's covered 113500 miles and was last serviced 2 years ago at 107000 miles? I owned it for 6 weeks and forgot to mention, it's always had an oily type smell about it once I get out and its warmed up.

From what I've read on LZ and a smidgen of understanding - the turbo oil seal's blown letting oil dump into the engine. Then this causes the engine to "diesel" on it's own leading to a runaway situation. Hopefully, the engine may not be damaged yet.... but don't start it again, just push/tow it out of the way (I know it weighs 2 and a quarter ton, sorry!). So, new turbo with new seal and hope that's all it needs (might pay to get the rest of the engine checked out too :( :(

Diff.

sounds lik turbo remove pipe from intercooler to inlet before starting it ,removing pipe from turbo to intercooler will prove turbo if oil drips out of turbo and pipes full
