Not to put a downer on your idea but I looked at doing this as well as building my own cage. I wanted to use cds to build it all. It's not cheap to begin with but then a ordinary pump action tube bender isn't really going to do the job and ideally a mandrel bender is required, then there is measuring and if you mess it up then it's start again, then the ally sheet, the time factor etc. I added up and was looking at 180 quid to do it my self and that was materials only, that is if I didn't mess up, but then there is the north off road kit which I think is £350 can build it in a day, will be perfect, all ready pre notched.

you need a rotary draw, not a mandrel bender to form it,two lengths of cds £70 half a days work

thanks for the reply's everyone i love the trayback pressbrake some very nice work you have done your attention to detail is impresive
the bender i will be useing will be a mandrel type by record the formers have been modified to make nice bends (use to be owned by a race bike builder) i intend to tig weld all joints as i was thinking of useing 1"1/4 ali tube (your thoughts on this would be appreciated)

Has the record bender got a mandrel sleave that goes up the inside of the tube? Overwise its not a mandrel bender, post a pick im curious!
I wouldnt go less than 1.5" thick wall alloy tube , even then it will only be cosmetic.
