no, it isn't, it would be nice if it was. I am trying to restore my first defender. Nothing has been secured to the chassis because it will be coming off again to be painted, just trying to make sure everything fits
its not uncommon when fitting a new chassis ,some of the problem is the new chassis but a lot is the old rotten bent chassis body over time settled to fit a taper bar ,jacks ,clamps, ratchet straps and starting all fastenings before tightening any helps

That's interesting. I thought mine must have been a one off! I thought they were all set up in a jig, so they could not be out. Thought I'd just been extremely unlucky.
 
How do the upstands from the tubular outriggers line up with the front of the tub? How is the front of the tub, is it rotten?

the front of the tub has been completely redone by the previous owner so hasn't got any rot, don't think it has tubular outriggers

No you don't. I had a look at some other 300Tdi 110 Richard Chassis and they don't have them either. You have black brackets on top of straight outriggers, just in front of the trailing arm brackets. How do they line up!

it is a defender 110 v8 chassis, they line up good with some persuasion
 
You're doing the right thing, dry fitting things together. It'll help you realise that things rarely go back together the same way twice, this will make you relax about feeling you need to get everything precise, will make you feel confident with the 'fettling' you will inevitably end up doing and you'll discover that you need to slowly tighten stuff up. ie if you tighten something up on one side of you landy then bolt holes on the other side won't even line up. Best to get a bolt through and turn a nut on a thread or two, then get a bolt in other side with a thread or two, then another etc. Then slowly work your way around tightening them up.
Just a thought, why don't you start a rebuild thread and you can put all the snags in one place. We can watch your progress! Lot's of pictures though as non of us can read too well. Us Northerners can't, anyway ;)

Watching this with interest as I am about to reassemble my own 90 using a diferent rear tub, and I was wondering what people use for the pads that go between the tub and chassis, I have seen them on eBay but they look a bit thicker than the ones that were previously fitted to mine and I fear this will lead to the same problem as the Harrytooth is having.

Yours will have been squashed! I doubt there are different ones, but there may be. You can easily look the part number up for your vehicle.
