You'll want the engine firmly supported and the weight of the gearboxes taken on something like an engine crane. Once the bolts are out you'll be able to slide the gearboxes away from the engine using the crane. This is particularly important for reassembly, in order to get the gearbox input shaft lined up with the clutch.
Will use engine hoist when it comes back, it belongs to a Mate but we all share it amongst each other. It is just sitting on pallet at the moment, Looks like its the nuts that come off, are the bolts part of the engine ??

You should be ok. It's normally having to lie on your back under it or standing on the bumper with your head wedged between the back of the cylinder head and the bulkhead that makes getting the nuts off a bit tricky. :) You don't have that problem. A couple of the bottoms ones might be tricky for you. Lift the transfer box end up a tad and get the bottom ones first.

Clutch alignment needn't be complicated. This was my high tech answer to getting all the bits in the right place. The tube just happened to fit the spigot bearing nicely and then more and more duct tape was added to fit the splined bit of the friction plate. It all lined up and the engine and gearbox went back together easily. It's not finished yet so still haven't had to use the clutch yet so time will tell. It's on a series 3 by the way.

It's worth tying or taping a bag over the turbo inlet and outlet to stop rogue bits getting in.
 
Quite pleased with progress today, new clutch fitted then engine and box back on Chassis, started to fit shocks but was not sure of which way they went, so waiting to get advice in another post before I go ahead and tighten them all up.
Will order new timing kit and waterpump ect when funds allow, Not sure what to start next

Just a few more pics, Hitting problem after problem now but will eventually get through them 1 by 1, well hopefully ;) Been trial fitting a few bits, rear tub, seatbox and tunnels, once they are lined up and I know they are gonna fit, they will be cleaned up before finally fitting.

Bit more done, Exhaust finally fitted, had to modify it to match 300tdi disco engine, all in place now just got to make some Hangers. Rear shocks fitted, Brake Pipes next then make a start on body.

Getting slowly closer. Hand brake drum done with new shoes, cleaned and refurberd adjusters, front and rear props fitted and greased up, just need one more bracket for rear of exhaust then start building body back up.
Was gonna have a nice sit down after all that but someone in my seat Again

I think you are doing a crackin job, especially when you started off as a complete novice (hope you don't mind me saying that) and with a collection of parts in boxes. You seem to have come on tremendously yourself in terms of what you are confidently tackling and doing a crackin job anorl. And we all make mistakes, that's life!

Don't Mind at all Mate, Im getting better and learning everyday, said it before and will say it again now, Really Couldn't have got this far without the help from people like you on this Forum.
