Dear All,
I've joined this forum as a complete novice seeking advice concerning my newly purchased 1978 diesel land rover (I'll seek out the correct section for advice next and give more details but in brief it concerns "piston slap" on number three cylinder and whether a "special oil" as yet unnamed, might cause the ceased piston ring to free itself and prevent the slight smoking from the oil filler cap etc. - I'd have known none of this by the way except for an old school mate who filled me in, all I knew was it seemed a bit too noisy).
So to sum up I'm completely useful for advice in return (I blame my dad who was equally inept in mechanical matters, but he did have the excuse of growing up in the horse drawn days on his farm!
I look forward to getting to know forum members.
