Well I spoke to the guy I bought it from and he has agreed to collect it from me on a trailer, take it away and put it right. Then I can collect it in a week or so and see it up on his ramps to inspect the repairs.

Can't say fairer than that.

I suppose my best bet would be to get underneath it tomorrow and try to find all of the corrosion and mark them right?

Any further advice appreciated.

Thanks.

might be a silly question, but do all defenders corrode like this??

Yes

If, they have not been looked after. You said it was from a farmer, To them the Landy is a tool. When it falls apart they get another, They are not the type to bother looking after it.

When you get it back, spend a weekend and underseal the whole chassis with Schutz. If you look after it, it will look after you.

As MHM, Take ALOT of pictures before you hand it over.

make sure he signs some paper work when he takes it away! or an email or whatever.

also he is going to pay for you to come and pick it up right? and the days work your losing, or whatever you want to make up for that. YOU want to lose nothing at all, and infact prob ask him to supply you with the protection free of charge as a gesture of goodwill as at the end of the day the chasis issue is something that is to be expected to be fine, so them just fixing that aint really enough is it, as it should have been sound before hand!

your vague steering might be caused by the slight flat tyre on the front nearside ;) get your pressures sorted and see what the steering is like then.

As for the rot, then yes, you'd have definite case with VOSA, if not with the seller, but with the MOT station!

Seems that a reasonable compromise can be reached and that is very good news. Me... I would not try and screw the dealer too hard. He seems to be trying to sort it. At the end of the day you want the vehicle back and road worthy and you don't really want to have to take civil action. Yes you have a good case but who needs the hastle. If all goes well, count yourself lucky and then enjoy it! Hats off to our residents who know the crack and offered great advice.
I think a new MOT after the repairs is a reasonable request?

I am not going to hammer the guy, to be fair to him he has, so fat, done everything that he could.

I have taken loads of pics, emailed them to him, and I feel pretty confident that he wants to sort it out for me.

I appreciate all of your help on here, many thanks, I daresay I will be on here again soon picking your brains for more technical expertise!!!

Thanks guys, you really have helped me between you here.

Johnny

I joined to say thanks as well!

I too have just bought a 90 that might be a lemon; stupid internet .
This thread has put my mind at rest re. my rights, if it turns out really bad.

My young cousin is an MOT tester, after he berated me for buying the thing in the first place he said he'd check it over Saturday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
