Hi,
Just got home and found some #### had smashed my driver side rear truck cab glass , had a quick search , but nothing came to light , has anyone got any leads on where I could buy a replacement - , I imagine new is unlikely , so more than likely second hand . Any good leads on breakers ?
Any advise much appreciated

I need to check the manual but I think that the rear truck cab window is the same as the side windows for swb safari. If this is right try Craddocks or Paddocks.
 
Unless you mean the curved glass bit in the corner it's simply a flat safety glass panel. A good glass shop can make this for you I am sure - i've had LR windscreens done that way wiith no difficulty. If yours has the metal edge on it you can likely salvage the edge and have it bonded to the new panel.
 
It's the flat bit that's gone , good lead on the safari side window , sort of makes sense , I'll look into that . At least I only changed the runners a few months ago , so it shouldn't be too much aggro to change .

Had a quick look , am still not 100% it's the same as the side , but certainly think so , however looked at the price .. £70 p+p , had mentally already set myself a budget of £20 - 30 for a second hand , if it is the same a s the side , on a safari there must a quite few knocking around , so I'll keep on that trail for a while .

just get one cut at your local glaziers, both rear flat panels are the same size so at the worst you've got to strip the remaining one out and use that as a template
 
That's an option , however I hazard they'll struggle to cut the hole for the latch , so I'd have to do without . I'll stay patient for the moment & keep looking & asking , am convinced they are out there to be had .

You may be surprised, it's not that hard to cut a hole in glass with the right tool and it is the stuff they work with day in day out.
 
I looked up the parts catalogue, its in the optional extras. Part No is MTC3463. Its available from Craddocks for £32.00 excluding vat and postage, surely its worth it to get a new original fitted? Not sure if that includes the latch fittings. By the by its a different part no. to the side window (which is MTC5314).

no they won't, i used to drill holes in 1/4plate 30 odd years ago when i built my own fish tanks

thanks for that part number , that also just fits with my mental budget , so that'll be the next stop , I still have the latch , so I'll just refit & reseal .

Well the saga continues , ordered the sliding glass , but have now been contacted and told actually they are obsolete and out of stock . To be fair the supplier has said they'll try and source one , however a scan of their competitors stock lists - which they seem able to do does not look promising . No bites on a couple of wanted ads , and none on e-bay , unless I want a whole rear cab section. I think I may be going down the glazier route .

Sorry to hear that Steve, but not altogether surprised that more obscure S3 parts are out of stock. In saying that there is a whole aftermarket in complete side door tops with glass so someone out there is making them. Good luck sourcing one, it's good to keep it all authentic.

..but didn't the fishes fall out through the holes?
