Just a quick question on a 1989 90 are the indicators ment to knock them selves off or not ?

They should do.
However you have a 26 year old 90 - use the manual indicator off thing.

I put a buzzer on my indicators as what with the engine and other noise - could not tell if they were on or not.

Mine have done, but it generally involves not paying attention to where I am driving, and suddenly the indicators have knocked themselves off.

The blue ring that catches the stalk has lost its tabs, genuine Lacas ones work for a while then give up, good old Lucas lol

Yes they are ...
Check that the cancelling ring on the column is set properly, with the arrowed lug pointing to the left and the slots are vertical ...
