Hi all
just wondering if any one can help ?
Bought a Range Rover HSE 2008 from a garage. Only had it 16 days and lost all suspension while driving, back end bouncing all over the place, limped home approx 1/4 of mile. Next day whole of car sitting more or less on the wheel arches.
Car went back on recovery truck as unable to drive it. I did put in a early rejection as it was within the 30 days set out in the Consumer Rights Act 2015. The garage refused the rejection as he said there was nothing wrong with it and said all he did was clean a height suspension sensor which would not be classed as a fault. ???? i thought the sensors were sealed units which would have to be removed and dismantled to be able to clean them. Surely there is a fault somewhere for this to happen !!
He also offered to change the 22 inch alloys and replace them with 19 inch alloys as a good will gesture. We bought the vehicle as we loved the look and feel this will spoil what we paid for.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
 
The height sensors cannot be cleaned, they are sealed units, so the garage are lying not to put too fine a point on it.
these cars are nothing but trouble unless you are lucky, you need to be able to DIY or have deep pockets.
I would put your rejection in writing and send it recorded delivery, however I expect you will end up taking it back with the final rejection coming when it fails again.
I do not know what the mileage is, but failed airsprings are not unusual, leaks lead to the air compressor overheating and eventually failing.
 
Send it back . Then buy one not on 22" wheels. Take a look around the forum and see why 22s are to be avoided.

See above. Talk to Citizens Advice Bureau if in trouble. Also, you car insurance might include legal advice.
 
not to too finer point on it. but the garage said it wasn't faulty, yet it was on the bump stops and not coming up. errrr. that's faulty. as mentioned above the sensors are sealed units. he cleaned them.. is the EAS working now or not ?

you may have purchased it because you like the look on the 22in rims. your car your choice, but it comes with downsides.
 
Why is he offering to change the wheels "as a goodwill gesture" if you don't want 19" alloys? Anything under 20" on an L322 will look like milk bottle tops.
Sounds proper dodgy to me

I would send it back and find another one.
Not acceptable quality and too many failures early in your ownership.

The return reply was nothing wrong with the vehicle and rejected by the seller. He stated that there were no faults with the vehicle as he cleaned a height controlled sensor and as by magic the suspension is now fixed. As you have stated, the sensors are sealed units and cannot be cleaned. Also why was the vehicle returned via tow truck due to suspension issues, as unable to drive. I really cannot believe that he can reject the vehicle !!!!!!
I understand that if i collect the vehicle if will cost me a lot of money to get it fixed, and if i continue to reject it, it will also cots me a lot of money to persue the rejection !! The Law is an ass !!,

The key to purchasing any used vehicle, particularly a Range Rover is keep budget aside for repairs.

A 10 year old plus complex vehicle is going to need remedy in some way or another and you have to do your homework and know what you are purchasing and potential fails and potential repair cost

Talk to CAB. Trading Standards might be worth a call too.

Write to the seller asking for a refund as the vehicle was not fit for purpose and had to be returned on a recovery vehicle giving him 14 days to make a full refund, add that after 14 days with no resolution you will pursue the matter through the county court.
You can take out a county court summons on line, it's not expensive, you need evidence of failure, recovery vehicle details etc, proof that the height sensor cannot be cleaned etc, the latter can be obtained from a garage.
If the seller defends you may have to attend court, mostly they do not bother to attend and you get a default judgement. To get the money you may have to get bailiffs involved, again not expensive, just a bit long winded.
