Hi all i'm new to this site and i have a problem. Recently bought a 53 reg td4 but i've noticed that when i reverse on full lock unless i give some it won't move, i've been told that it could be the tyres because they are all different makes and different tyre depths but also that it could be the VCU what ever that is. Any help would be appreciated thanks as i don't no what to do now.

it will be the vcu been over stiff, you can check by jacking one rear wheel up and try turning the wheel with a socket and bar ,different tyres will speed failure of vcu,you can remove prop and vcu and drive on just the front till you can get tyres and vcu sorted

just the vcu ,but id replace support bearings at the same time ,if vcu is stiff dont do many miles before removing prop or getting vcu changed

Freelander? They are tightish even with a reconditioned vcu.

What's the milage?

Any strange noise when driving on pretty tight turns?

If you're using it on road constantly just take the props, vcu & support bearings off, I did that to my wife's TD4 a couple years back and it handles far better than before.

Don't think we'll get any snow round this way for a little while yet!
