that looks completely different to the one I found!

From what you guys are reading in this thread, are you thinking (like me) that this is something that I'm just not actually capable of doing?!?

Cos yu found a defender box disco as in the pic above pipe in middle of box fits to snorkel other pipe goes to air intake. the rubber ducks beak thing is a drain valve. that'll need blocking up. coca-cola bottle cap is just the right size and a blob of silicont will make it watertite. Get the filter and you'll woinder why you thought it would be hard.

I might have a bit of time on Saturday, ( wifes taking kids to a party ), I,m sure I could help you out.

The guys that rent the farm I live on have loads of old Disco bits. I,ll have a chat and see if they,ve got an old 200 D1 air box about.

Take yer time and you wont need to pay too much for bits.

OK, so this is the one I want, right?

landrover disco 200 airbox and brackets on eBay (end time 28-Oct-10 13:18:55 BST)

Presumably, the snorkel inputs at the side and the air then leaves the airbox via the bent pipe sticking out of one end, right?

What is the cone-shaped thing sticking out of it?

What is the small pipe sticking out of the larger output pipe for?

Also, given the amount of space I have, front to back, between the ABS unit and the cruise-control control unit sitting where the standard Land Rover airbox should be, it really doesn't look like this 200TDi airbox will actually fit :(

Thanks Del... what time might that be, Saturday though? I'm gonna be out during part of the day!

Needless to say, I'd happily drive to you rather than make you drive to me, of course! :D

I hope I dont need to change my air filter in a hurry, as the homemade snorkel I fitted is siliconed staight onto the air box !.( which you nrrd to unclip to change ).

Del.

Ideally, i'd like my air filter to be relatively easily changable, of course... :D

As for you possibly helping out on Saturday, even if you are able to have a look under the bonnet and offer some advice, I'd be very grateful indeed!

Advice is one thing, but advice having actually seen the item is much more useful, potentially...

Probably between 11 and 1 ish.

OK... i plan on going to the Great Chesterford Steam-Up on Saturday, but could definitely leave Huntingdon to go there very early afternoon (i.e. between 12 and 2)...

i'll send you a PM with my mobile number and if you are available, do you want to give me a ring, tell me where to get to and I'll meet ya there??

phew that seemed unnecessarily complicated - or is it the vodka ??

mine took all of 2 hours to fit, including resealing the 300 airbox

I modified a older can type air filter so that i could do something similar to what you require. The plastic original box was no good as it meant the second battery would not fit so i used a older metal one from a older V8. I know the intake system is a little different on the diesel but i am sure you could do something similar very easily.

I did have to modify the washer bottle so that i could re route the intake piping around the extend shock towers.

The compressor for the cruise control is originally fitted underneath the second battery tray that the jack and air intake are usually found over on a disco 300.Its a while sice I took the one off mine but I think it may even fit TO the underside of the tray.Which is an absolute sod to get to and leads to more cuts on hands.Honestly,I have cuts that never get a chance to heal from working on discos....theres always something sharp in the way to get the blood flowing again.

right... here's a picture of my engine bay:

As you can see, the ABS box will get in the way of a 200TDi airbox.

Also, the second battery and cruise control thing will get in the way of the standard 300TDi airbox.

So... other than buying some pipe from B&Q and stuffing some foam down it, any ideas??
