I had a sd1 engine in a series one, thrown together realy not built (not on the road).
I remeber the front axe smashing off the remote fillter housing,I removed it and put on a filler off a renault 5, 70mm deep shorter than the houseing.
I didnt build mine very well and it suferd from lack of front suspention movment. Is this a prob to you, how have you fixed it and have you any pics.
Its one of them shouldn't have got rid storys

Yeah mine really struggled in my disco with standard v8 rad and twin 12" fans

Can't see a tdi rad managing unless you're not running it for long when trialling?

Got an hd rad on mine now and back to old fashioned viscous, cool as a cucumber :)

ive got an adapter plate on it but not sure if its for an S1 or S2a. and ive got the remote oil filter kit to try and avoid that.

what about the engine mounts, and the radiator?

you can use the 19J TD rad with the oilcooler built in. cheaper than a V8 rad too

Engine mounts I have we're already fabricated to fit a v8 but Steve Parker used to do them.

Radiator I'm going to be using a 200 to rad but think I will
Need to eventually go down the v8 rad route because for driving on road or racing the tdi rad seems just too small. For trials it'll be fine with a leaky fan will see just how hot it gets and report back I think as above it'll not be man enough tho.

I'll have a look at those engine mounts.

Still gonna be a while before I get to putting the new engine in. I'm expecting a lot of welding..

What clutch are you using? the v8 I've got has a 2.25d clutch on it.

I'm actually
Using an old series 9.5 inch clutch and an old 9 inch clutch cover which is very heavy and because of that think that having weight off the flywheel is a bit pointless. But it'll come together slowly!!

the v8s are very good at lurching around in low box, i can use my throttle as an on/off switch almost which is handy, and like you say, a must for successful trialling i guess.

best o' luck wi' it :)

Too right. Them trees jump out the ground and run at ya in a V8!!
I don't blame ya, lightening the flywheel wouldn't be much point, just easier to stall too.

Looking good tho Jai
